yes, i seen that before.  If you can read it fairly quickly, your decoding skills and word recognition have pretty much become totally automatic.  It would screw up a local who's still using phonics though.

I was able to read it through almost as quickly as normal English, but it would be another story altogether for someone who isn't a native English speaker.

The number of words used in common spoken/written English is rather limited, so the brain helps out by anticipating what will come next, first part of speech (adjective, noun, etc.) then actual word. If the article above concerned some obscure topic with uncommon vocabulary, then it would have been much more difficult.

This is how speed-reading works. You don't look at individual letters or even individual words. You just scan the text.

The phaonmenal power of the human mind, according to a research at Cambridge University, it doesn't matter in what order the letters in a word are, the only important thing is that the first and last letter be in the right place. The rest can be a total mess and you can still read it without a problem. This is because the human mind does not read every letter by itself, but the word as a whole.
