IMO it all boils down to the needs of the user;

I got 6 phones; all Nokias; 3 really cheap ones and 3 medium priced ones;

1. Why all Nokias? so that all can share the same recharger except for the newer one

2. Why 3 cheap ones? When I don't need Internet access, no video and no camera; I treat them as disposables, used primarily for traveling.

3. Why 3 medium priced ones? 1 for video call (2 cameras), 1 for camera / video with low resolution and listening to mp3 and 1 for call / low resolution of pics and video. Why low resolution? ehhhh............... sometimes do not want clear images of subjects. Make sense ???

Phones only say something about you to other guys who love phones. And shoes? What shoes say is that you're a guy who wants others to think he's cool because he paid 4000 HK for a pair of Prada loafers! Get a life guys!

jborne 69 "but do you guys realise the gweilows usually have really shit phones?"

I've got one phone, a Nokia, and haven't the slightest fucking idea what the model is, paid 500 HK for it. No internet, no camera, none of the frilly bullshit the locals get off on. When I bought it, I said, "give me the cheapest phone you've got." Really this obsession with mobile phones is a real Asian thing. I'll bet you guys spend an hour a day reading mobile phone reviews? If you see me in a cafe, I'm the one reading a newspaper when all the Nokia fan boys are instant messaging some pointless drivel to some other guy/girl without a life. I put mobile phone worship in the same category as computer game playing - both substitutes for using your brain.

And mind you, I'm a real geek - there's nothing I can't do with a computer - always build my own. But mobiles don't interest me at all. I spend about 20 mins max each day on the phone and never message.

OK, bring it on.

yeah.  nokias are good.

i have 2 phones just sold one today. i always trade in so never have more than two to three phones:

1 my first phone was nokia 3310 it was so cheap with b&W screen
2 then another nokia 3210
3 then i used sony ericsson T610 it was the first white phone with 300K pixel camera god i was happy
4 then i changed to NEC L1 because it was so fucking thin, i dropped it on the fucking taxi without noticing
5 got a shitty nokia 6030 to punishing myself for being so careless
6 got a motorola K1 coz it was value for money with a very good 2M pixel camera and stylish design

now still thinking of N95 8GB but since the problem is the tariffs which makes the cost of the phone varing for HKD1,000.
so i really need to shop around.

ok forget about buying your phones from fortress or broadway coz without the tariffs from the networks they are way more expensive than the networks.  make sense?

and more importantly the cut off date of my credit card bills is on the 15th so i might as well wait for another 4 more days before i start shopping.

as stated in #28 of my post i will wait for another 4 to 5 more days and when more phone networks are having this phone available the price can drop even lower.
currently PCCX is doing the best deal.  depending on the tariff you choose you can safe 400 to 900 on the HKD6,088 phone, which is already, if you notice, HKD100 cheaper than what they are doing at fortress and broadway.

don't get so serious about it.
i'm just making a comment, of course the gweilows at London are now queuing for the iPhone now in the rain.

i agree, the phone thing is an asian thing, but i guess when i like phones i would also love to have a pair of HKD4K prada shoes haha.

That's it! Christ! - you Asians are so non-confrontational. I was hoping for a good flame war. I'm lonely dammit! I need the attention!

Well, the Prada loafers would look pretty silly with my habitual attire - fake polo shirt hanging outside my knee length JC Crew shorts. But if you look closely, you'll see a very expensive Jaeger LeCoultre wrist watch with leather band  (metal bands are SO cheap!)

How do you wash your hands then?  My leather band watches are favorites, but after a year or two, they start smelling like rotted leather.
I gave up and bought metal bands.  Now, after every one or two years, I bring it in to be serviced and it's like Brand New!

Watches are also getting obsolete.  Most kids just use their cell phones for a watch.  Alarm, calender, translator, etc.  A cell phone is like a multimedia gadget.  Once they get a streaming TV in there, it's the end of the world.

Buy a new watch band every year.

Yah, I know fewer and fewer people wear watches, but I like how they feel and look; they're one of the few acceptable forms of male jewelry. And it annoys me to have to pull out my mobile to check the time. (When was the last time you saw a clock anywhere, esp. in airports?!)

Watching TV on your mobile is a perfect example of why I don't want one. Watching TV is usually pretty much a waste of time anyway, and to watch it on a 2" screen is so dumb that I don't even know where to start. This is technology creating demand, not the other way around.

i am considering the HTC TyTN II but seems the processor is slower than other current PDA phones.

Anybody  know if this a good phone and whether I should consider the other HTC models.

Like the GPS function but dun know if it is fast on draining the juice and if the maps are good enough for my application.

Comments pls
