As ymc had suggested, Macau is a great option with the best choices. If you arrive at 1:30 and your luggage is already checked in for your onward flight, take the 1420 ferry to Macau. You arrive at 1510, take a cab and can be at the sauna by 1540. Good places to go would be Senado or 18. To make your 2330 flight, you must catch the 2015 boat back to the airport which givs you a good 4 hours at the sauna. Get an optional foot or full body massage, watch the show, have some food, wash up and if you forgo the foot massage you can go for two sessions with two different WGs. With Macau, everything is laid out for you whereas in HK, the girl you want may not be available and you could be roaming the streets until she's free. Give this a thought.

Correct - the headway is typically up to 12 minutes, and is less than that at peak times.  This means an average wait time of 6 minutes.
So with a return journey, that makes the probability of waiting less than 2x 9 minutes is 93% [definitely need a disclaimer here: Murphy's Law applies!!] and the probability of waiting less than 2x 8 minutes is 89% ...

damn! i wish i could be that scientific!

I have to concur with D'Art's 123 Bonham Strand recommend.  Extremely convenient.  Don't let the shabby exterior fool you, there's gold in them thar hills!  Oh, also, if I remember correctly, the street addresses on Bonham Strand aren't always sequential, particularly around that triangle that intersects the street close to 123.  Stay to the right and you'll find it.

Also, you might want to add 20 minutes into the whole process for checking your luggage at the airport into luggage storage, so that you don't have to drag it around with you.

I didn't do it.  Really I didn't.

I agree with the other bros. 6 hours gives you plenty of time using the Airport Express. Go for it.

yeah ... Macau is fantastic ... and 9 days out of 10 you can do it there and back OK in a 6 hour layover ... but ... we gotta tell them about the logistical risk.

Going to Macau adds a seagoing ferry trip, or a helicopter ride,
which is susceptible to storms and fog
especially during the summer monsoons

If you're a competent nautical weatherman, by all means check things out when you arrive, and take the plunge.  But don't take it lightly, and definitely don't do it if missing your flight would cause embarrassment or un-affordable extra cost.  Until the new bridge is built (in about 10 years' time) a time-constrained trip to Macau needs to be done with caution.

Having said that if the weather is good, and the forecast is reliably stable, going to Macau is worth the extra effort.

For the rest, who prefer not to live quite so close to the edge, no form of transport is as reliable as a train trip followed by a short walk.

You know, when you put it that way, a fella almost HAS to try to squeeze it in just once in life, like climbing everest or something.

I can just see me ditching the business partners now:

"Hey Jeeves, you want to hit the airport bar and watch the monsoon roll in?  We've got 6 hours before our next flight."
"Naw, Bob, I think I'll pass.  I got a chopper waiting, gonna zip up to Macau and get me some tail and I want to get a jump on that level 5 thunderstorm rolling in."
"Man you've got nerves of steel!  I was just gonna settle for jerking off in the airport restroom . . ."

I didn't do it.  Really I didn't.

For D1, this is true because of the guaranteed service time and well trained WGs. For other joints, not much better than HK.

No you don't, not if you're in transit.

If you're in transit your checked-in bags are handled by the airline, so all you have to carry is whatever is already in your hands.  No delay there, unless you drop it off at the left luggage store.

LOL!

The Macau layover is a subject for a whole different thread!!

Come to that I'd be surprised if there's not some sort of a shuttle service from HKIA to Macau ... anyone hear of one??

They added that many sailings to the schedule?

It used to suck before, really difficult to plan properly into your scheduled departure time.  Looks like I'll be flying Cathay again.

Yes, the service from HKIA to the rest of the Pearl River Delta has been greatly improved since March. You need to check in just 45 mins after you buy the ferry ticket (instead of 120 mins) and the pier is now next to the ticket counter right before HK immigration. No need to take the bus to the pier anymore, that was the old temporary terminal. There are also more sailing schedules to Zhuhai, Shenzhen and Zhongshan port.
