I was following the production stories on Avatar for a while, and the one thing that seemed clear to me was that Cameron was setting out to make a movie that pioneered and created new 3D filming techniques - in order to create the most immersive 3D effect movie to date. Gotta say I think he succeeded 100% on that. The alien characters were beautifully rendered, as was the entire world. The plot however, was very poor. Yet for a 2 hours and 42 minutes long movie, I was not bored once, simply because of the visuals. I should note, that I saw the movie in Canada, there were no distracting Chinese subtitles at the bottom of the screen, and the 3D glasses were the best I've worn for a move to date, very lightweight, clean lenses, so that may have had a bearing on my overall take on the film.
