Normally only the mature ones like to move to new pastures so will start laying eggs immediately. The WG may only have been "hosted" by another customer relatively recently and not even know she has them. As for washing vigorously?  That does not work, even a long soak in bath tub won't kill the little bastards as they have evolved to live happily in the "forest". You need something from the chemist, although I understand there are some natural remedies like tea tree oil based cream (like a conditioner) which works, just don't get any on your knob or SO will wonder why she is hearing screams from the bathroom.
