Hi xdd...

Interesting recommendations...I have heard good things about the Langham from non-hobbyists.  Only drawback in my books would be location...but great for hobbying.

On the Upper House...I was just reading about that and had noticed the 'lobby' of it from the mall when I was walking to the Conrad.  Is the Upper House part of the JW (upper floors or something) or a new building... location doesn't seem to line up but the rooms have that same corner feel/look but of course larger.

upper house is occupies floors 40 to ~52 of the JW marriot building. UH doesnt have its own pool facility, so you have to cross over to the JW via the 7th floor to use their pool.

check out the pics of upper house. i have stayed in hotels all over asia and USA, mostly westins, Ws, and st regis, and UH is definitely the best for that price range. STUDIO80 rooms are the best value.

Thanks for the additional detail xdd.  I knew those pics made me think of my stays at the JW but nicer.

I know the pool area well at the JW...even tried to get Good Night to lounge there with me the morning after an overnighter.  Oh well.

Thanks for the reference points on UH versus U.S. hotels.

I have lived a few months in hotels in Hong Kong, and came to conclusion that Agoda (from Priceline) and Wotif were best value booking sites.

boutique are smaller non-chain hotels.
they usually have some kind of unique design to the hotel.

BP international is a decent clean mid-class hotel. You can get it for under $100 no problem but you will have to pay for internet access. they have daily internet access rates, tho i forget how much they charge.

Excellent location right next to shopping and subway.

I have to agree with Langham place.  It's a pretty nice hotel for a very reasonable price.  And its in MK so close to alot of action.  There are also a couple other places that I like to stay when I hit up HK.  The Marco Polo chain's of hotels in TST.  Very convenient location and nice rooms.  Grand Hyatt in Wan Chai and the EAST in Tai koo.  The East is not as convenient but its brand new and quite nice.

There are plenty of hotels.  If safety is your concern a 3 1/2 star is good.

I LOVE the W hotel in HK.  It's one of my fav hotels in the world.  Great view if you stay in one of the Wonderful room- looks over the harbor and the tunnel.  Very convenient to the airport cause it's right above the Kowloon airport express stop.  Awesome pool and gym.  The only issue is that you have to have a key to use the elevator so if you're ordering take out, you will have to go all the way down to the lobby to meetyour WG- which could be awkward- esp if they bait and switch you to someone you dont want.  Kinda hard to kick them to the curb at that point....but I've done it!

Intercontinental Hong Kong

Will be making the maiden trip to Hong Kong next month for a week. Will be staying at the Intercontinental Hong Kong. Everywhere I go I always stay at Intercontinental and have never had a problem bringing "guests" back. Can I presume that that will be the same in Hong Kong?

Also does anyone have information of freelancers working the hotel lobby and bars? All the other places I stayed had action to be had in the lobby. Thanks.
