That's exactly the train of thought I was hoping to guide people to think....and to allow people to realize that it is always better to "keep things simple"....

Those are very sweeping statements Paka. If that were the case, the forum wouldn't need mods at all. In fact, 2/wk is constantly having to deal with posts that he considers inappropriate regardless of what I or anyone else has said about ethics.

This whole argument started in a thread where donorg1 stole pics from another forum to compose and post a fake report in the International section. He was slapped down because that was considered dishonest, i.e., unethical. I'm sure you would also agree that pics of someone having sex with a 10 yr old should not be allowed on the site. Well that too is an ethical judgment. The idea that any site, even a sex site, can avoid applying ethical standards is absurd. All human behavior is bound by rules and therefore ethically constrained.

To restrict the argument to the posting of pics obtained through deception, in your previous posts you have said that you wouldn't post a pic of a girl who asked you not to. I agree that we should always hold ourselves to a higher standard, but certainly a discussion of the ethical appropriateness of posting such pics, and the harm they may potentially cause, is not out of place here on the forum. At the very least, it may serve to make people aware of issues they previously weren't concerned with.

The difficulty here is that it will often be impossible to know whether the pics in an anonymous report were agreed to or not. It then becomes a problem of the practicality of applying standards. Well like everything else in life, we're going to have to give people the benefit of the doubt. But believe me there will arise extreme cases where even the mods will feel it necessary to take some kind of action.

You have asked for the opinion of the other senior bros concerning the posting of pics - see the 'Chinese lady in Toronto' thread in the International Section and note the comments, including those of two of the forum's mods.

Doing nothing has been the cause of more human suffering (and wars) than taking a stand ever did.  
We are not in a position to instruct bros what they do OUTSIDE of this forum, but we most definitely DO carry an obligation to set standards INSIDE the forum.  

Do we need formal rules?  No.  

We can continue to guide the forum
- by the example we set
- by polite or appropriately blunt feedback we give to contributions
- use of Karma and Acceptance
- and by spotting and banning trouble-makers who refuse to fit in.  

As long as we continue to be sensitive to contributors' impact we can handle situations case-by-case without resorting to a rule-book.  

Apropos, it's interesting that the contributor who sparked the debate by sharing his opinions on ethics of sharing pics has absented himself ... so the system seems to be working.

What paka meant was below by quoting my comment and he probably omitted a few words.

yeah, but isn't that sort of why your title is moderator, twice?  trying to control everyone's behaviour in the forum would be even more time consuming than what you currently volunteer your time for, nor is it reasonable to expect you to.  obviously there are numerous cases where you and the other moderators have had to intervene due to behaviours that you've felt were inappropriate/excessive/downright tasteless, etc.; but ultimately, i think we have to hope that as "mature adults," all bros will act in a manner that doesn't infringe upon the integrity of the rest of the forum community.  it's like being on a sports team: doing something dumb/unethical/tasteless/classless, whatever, doesn't reflect on just one bro - it has consequences for everyone.  as long as everyone is unselfish and keeps this in mind, i would hope that the pics issue should mostly take care of itself.

This is an interesting thread, and it's not the first time I've read discussion on here about the rights/wrongs of taking WG pictures.

I agree with the idea of self-regulation (i.e. regulation from within). However, that does require written guidelines that will be used to judge each and every instance of picture posting. There needs to be some form of outline as to what is going to be treated as acceptable and what is not, otherwise, what are you regulating against? The guidelines need to be posted on the site, so that everyone knows what's what and can abide by them, or go against them and suffer the consequences. The regulation needs to come from the moderators as quite obviously they are the only ones with the power to do so. To expect each Bro to regulate themselves based on their own personal set of dos and don'ts is inherently flawed and naive.

If there are no guidelines, and no regulation from within, then this topic is destined to repeat and repeat.

As far as what guidelines I would suggest:

> If a WG has her face shown un-pixelated in the DB, then she has already given up her anonymity, and any picture whether face, nude, full body etc is accepted.
> If a WG has a pixelated face in the DB, then no face pics are allowed at all. Body shots/nude shots are accepted as long as the face is not shown. It is the responsibility of the Bro posting the pictures to ensure that the face is not shown, otherwise said pictures will be removed. Face should be defined as 'whole face' and should either be pixaleted to the same degree as in the DB or obscured in full. A black bar on the eyes only, leaving the nose, mouth and hair intact is not sufficient.
> Caveat - if a picture appears to have been taken in a situation where the WG may not have known she was being photographed (i.e. picture of WG possibly asleep, or in shower alone through door crack etc), said pictures can be removed at the discretion of any moderator, and that moderator's decision is final. If a non-moderator Bro feels a picture falls into this category, he can PM a nominated moderator to flag the picture for moderator review.
> Caveat - current RA30 rules continue to apply: explicit pictures that show anything more than breasts, bush or bum cheeks, or that show any sexual action, should continue to be RA30'd. So for instance, picture of a girl standing up, naked, with boobs and bush showing is OK, but picture of girl lying down with legs apart and pussy lips showing, RA30.
