It's hard to be optimistic about HK nightlife after the past 4 years. Those of us who have been around for a while know just how hot HK nightlife was before 2014. Basically, you had a centralized nightlife with everything in Central/Soho, Wanchai, and TST. And people went out in droves at all hours of the night - expats, tourists, and most importantly HK office ladies in their 20s/30s/40s who would meet each other for dinner, get tipsy on wine, then pretend to jump in a taxi home, only to have the driver stop somewhere in the vicinity of LKF so they could go to some late night club alone and get picked up by some random gweilo guy. Even Wanchai was full of various bar types, all next to each other, where you could pull civilian birds in one, FL girls in another, and the now extinct hostess clubs. My old bird-hunting mantra was "WC on a Friday and LKF on Saturday." Your chances of picking up locals was impressively high, and there was also WC for a late late night backup if you needed a last-minute trade. It really was a hot time to be here. I often had my dinner at 11 pm and didn't even start the hunting til well after midnight.
Those daze is gone. We know. Yeah it was already going down some in the era of mobile phones and dating apps from 2014-2019, so fewer and fewer horny, local ladies were coming out. Lots of other neighborhoods popped up with new restaurant areas, which took lots of the traffic away from central. And some local d*ckface tried to challenge the "Ladies Night" offerings where females could enjoy free drinks at certain times on certain evenings, which had really done wonders for the guy:girl ratio. But again, we've witnessed that preferential ratio deteriorate over the past decade and all gotten used to the new 10:1 male:female ratio. (Makes for a good sausage fest. Whoopee... Woohoo...) And from 2019 of coz, its turned into a desert. I don't even wanna think about all those late covid weekend nights roaming around WC trying to avoid the same old lady FLs on the streets. (Do they actually get any business? I half think they're just trying to annoy guys like me out of revenge for losing their past princess glory...)
So I was curious, though not letting myself get hopeful (and certainly not optimistic) when things started turning toward relaxation at the end of 2022 and we started anticipating the light at the end of the tunnel with the world putting the pandemic in its history dustbin (f**ing hopefullY...). But my WC nights out in Nov-Jan weren't feeding into much hope. There was absolutely no room for maneuvering as a single gangster, yet, at least. Just all these hot girls kind a moving about with guys they were dating. Has everyone become so much more conservative in their tastes? Or was it just my imagination?
Sooooo, my lil bromonster started whispering to me the way he always does after a couple of beers and a few dozen glances at hotties in the vicinity. So what to do when the clock strikes 1? Off to WC!
And WC was alive late night. The underground FL bar ("E" meaning the place where diplomats work) was fairly full for the first time in its current iteration.
