Martial Arts Suggestions

I've noticed a few bros here have mentioned in their reports they do martial arts.

Wanted to see if y'all had any suggestions for what form of martial would be good for a total newbie to start a path on that balances fitness and practical usage for self defense.

Also any suggestions on gyms or studios in HK? Thank you!

Muay Thai or Muay Thai.

That can make you fitter and a powerful fighter in 12 months. You can do Wing Chun or any other art for years and not be a powerful fighter.

Do be wary the conditioning for Muay Thai is brutal and the sparring involves knocking the hell out of each other so you will get hit and hurt while doing it.

I know several masters in the New Territories they've been training their own styles all their lives and they're wary of Muay Thai fighters.

It's why so many MMA fighters base their style around it.

Thanks all for the feedback!

Would BJJ or even like Krav Maga be good options? Or like what was mentioned those are kinda overpriced in HK?

Any suggestions for actual places to go to learn Muay Thai?

Interesting on the point re: triad. Funny that on a forum like this, it's Muay Thai that gets a triad proximity warning, not punting haha

BJJ is second to none in my view.  There are a couple of great schools in HK.

Head over to ChrisCollinsACTION.com
He teaches multiple martial arts, from Wingtsun to BJJ, MMA to Pekiti Tersia Kali. His studio is in SheungWan

Alternatively you can consider engaging in and learning HEMA (Historical European Martial arts) with Einherjar at https://hemahk.wixsite.com/einherjar

Gl, and have fun!

Jeet Kune Do is a very good martial art as you are litterally taught everything martial art style and are allowed to develop your own martial art style during your training.

BJJ is most practical for self defense and pretty good for fitness. You can throw in some boxing or kickboxing if you want to strike and at that point you're basically doing mma. But just BJJ is enough to learn and you don't really need a lot of striking training if you are just looking for self defense.

Extremely practical for defending yourself against someone trying to punch your head off because unless they also know BJJ they'll just be thrown to the ground and locked up and be useless.
