During the period of the height of feminism (as distinct from the sort of feminism that is a part of every day life now) the more extreme amongst them used to say that marriage was a form of prostitution because women were "forced" into it in order to have a secure life.  There may be some cultures where that is still the case, but not the cultures where the WGs come to HK

Of course, a girl would rather be a super-model than a WG; but she looks at her options, and in many cases becoming a WG is a damn sight better than working on a production line, or living a life of poverty.  Ibn some cases, they might get some enjoyment out of it; in other cases it is work, with all the drudgery etc that entails.  I treat my employees well, whether it is in my company, or my maid, or the WGs I encounter.

I haven't come across anyone in HK who would say they have been "forced" (other than perhaps by economic circumstances) into that life, but all of us (or those without rich parents) are forced to work to one degree or another.

If you can't agree with that statement, there's something wrong with you.

You can confuse the argument all you want with relativistic bullshit about economic necessity. The question is simple - is she doing it because she decided to, or was she forced into it against her will.

Whether you can ever be sure is something else. I have no intention of mounting an in depth investigation into the issue, and I will continue to visit the Hotel and Room girls. But it's easy to understand why the bros are uncomfortable with the subject, at least those with a conscience.

That's pretty much what I had assumed was the case in HK. Tho the description given in the original post about the conditions in some of the brothels in the outlying areas is worrying. I haven't gotten any impression at all that the girls I've visited so far weren't doing it voluntarily - far from it - and I'll continue to visit them.
