Taxi Service Fares

What does it usually cost to drive a tax through Hong Kong?  Say I was driving from
one end to Hong Kong to the other side?  How long does it take?

I've heard of that, some cabbies drive you around town, while you do the girl in the back seat of the car.  I also heard cabbies charge extra when you things like that.

I read somewhere you can rent your own HK taxi cab for a shift.  You don't need show qualifications except be a HK resident.  If you are good, you can pick up a few fares to take care of the rental charges and petrol costs.

It will be just like those guys who rented a taxi for punting purposes in the HK flick, "Men Suddenly in Black".

maybe ... but it is illegal to drive a cab without a taxi drivers licence ...

I have heard of people renting a stationary taxi in a quiet spot though, the driver goes off and does his own thing for a while.

a 1/2 hour ride typically racks up about HK$200.  That'll get you 20km or so, plenty to go from one side of the Island to theother.

Don't know why I'm replying...

But I once took a taxi from Sheung Shui to Deep Water Bay and it cost me $380 including the tunnel fees etc. AFTER the 20% discount I negotiated beforehand.

SEAJ

sure

that's from way up north to way down south ... hard to find a routing that would be longer ... 90% of the population of HK is within range of a $200 trip.

unless you go all the way to Stanley of course

I don't think any of us can answer how much it costs to drive a taxi through HK...

But if you're hiring one complete with driver thats a different case. By taking a ride through HK, do you mean HK island or from Lantau to NT, etc.?

There are ones that you can 'prebook' and they'll most likely to offer you a 20% discount.

And I still don't know...

Why Chewie would want to ask this question.

Chewie - why the question?
