Chao Inn, 1 Peking Road has great dim sum and fantastic views of HK island.  It's up on the 10th floor.
Serenade, on the first floor of the Hong Kong Culture Center on Salisbury, great food and fantastic views
SuperStar, on 97 Nathan Road - venerable place with the best creations of  奶黄包 around.  Can't see it from the street, it's sort of like going into a 141 place - you need to go down the gangway, then go upstairs.

the first two places definitely are more touristy places because of the views, but the dim sum is still outstanding and reasonably priced.  Superstar is also touristy, but more locals tend to go there.

Also forgot another good one to consider - Fook Lam Moon, on 53 Kimberley Road.  Right dead center at TST HG and WG Ground Zero.

Superstar has a promotional offer on at the moment - some popular dim sum bites at very competitive prices, to get you through the door.  Seems to be working for them.

Certainly has that authentic Hong Kong chow atmosphere.

Can't compare to other TST places, but for food quality I'll give it 7/10.  Good but you can find better if you live here for a while.

These places, do they only serve Dim Sum during certain times? Or it's all day/night? Also, being from Canada, some restaurants here push the cart some are by order, are these places all by cart? Thx in advance.

Chao Inn opens at 9am.  Serenade opens at 8am.  I think Superstar doesn't open until after 10am.

None of the 3 that I mentioned push carts.  You order from the sheets.  Serenade has push carts for specialty items.

There are definitely smaller places in TST that are much better in terms of food taste, and pricing.  Can't remember the names of any of them though.

are there any dim sum places for takeout or small tables for 1 person?
I went to Maxim last time in HK. I liked it alot but we had a big group (5 people) so we were able to get a table to ourselves.

Dim Sum is basically a lunchtime meal.  At its best it's prepared fresh and served as fast as it's made.

Although you can get it in the evenings the quality and the selection tends to be poorer as they just don't get the demand for it.

A lot of places have a 1/2 price deal after a set time, like 2:30 or 3pm, to clear out the fresh stock and make a bit more money.
