no problem withdrawing money in Beijing, lots of banks including Citibank. Like Tybear said, ATMs are always at hotel lobbies.

Be careful that your bank and with the Chinese bank will not charge you a lot of fees.
It happened with me in China before I set up a bank of China bank account. I lost a lot of money due to charges.

Make sure you check surcharge when you are at the ATM because different bank machine charges different rate. Plenty of hotels should have ATMs in the lobby or ATMs near by. HSBC ATMs are not as frequent and I don't think I have ever seen a Chase ATM in China...

Be carefull, do not use an unknown brand of ATM inside of some shopping mall or market, some of them give fake bills.

Have u tried to exchange some money in your home country before going?  Cuz if you go exchange in beijing exchange rates might not be the best.

sounds like you got a citi account....is it one of their premier accounts?  because they give you excellent exchange rates worldwide on foreign currency and no fees.
