Prepaid SIM for HK and Macau

hi all,

i'm looking to get a prepaid SIM that will work in HK as well as Macau
mainly for data use so no big deal on crappy call rates

any recommendations?

I am not sure you can find one that will work in HK and Macau..  Someone else my know more, but I had to get a new one in Macau.

is there such thing as a 'international roaming' add on pack for prepaid SIMs?

You can try getting a prepaid sim from 3 three network or China unicom. They are the only ones I know of in HK with Macau option. But if in Macau, most casinos offer free wifi on the casino and their shuttle buses. There is also the local wifigov from Macau govt, at most scenic hotspots like the Macau ferry terminal lvl 3 or San mo lo. In HK not so much freebie wifi around.

you're referring to one2free, and yes 3 is a different network.

One2free/csl prepaid sims has data bundles which are unlimited.  There's 3 choices of 1 day, 4days? And 7 days.  I normally go for the 7 day pass which costs 78 dollars. U can set it up for international roaming calls, not sure about data charges though.

If you do go down the route of buying a separate macau sim card, then pay serious attention to charges.  I managed to burn through 100 dollars in like 3 mins. Friend thought i was lyin. So he tried it on his and same thing happened. Definitely read through the manual and get data bundle if you can.

Best option is using a 3 sim card. I have a 3 contract sim from uk and I'm allowed to use my data bundle abroad incl. Hk and macau.  So maybe look at their sims over here and see if its similar.

At HKIA, there's a China Mobile booth at both the arrivals and departures levels. At the arrivals I think it's after you pick up your luggage but right before you exit into the arrivals floor. On the departures level the booth is about in the middle back near the departure gates. This works for simplicity without searching around.

There's also an AV Noble store on the arrivals floor but they seem to only promote/sell 3/Three sim cards and while the staff there can speak English, my experience is that they don't necessarily fully understand English.

7-Eleven also sells sim cards though I've never purchased from there and have no idea if that staff know the difference between the cards.

At the Macau Ferry Terminal, on the arrivals floor after you pass immigration, there's a vending machine that sells prepaid data cards (I think from 3/Three).
