This is just my honest opinion and purely from my experience.
I've had my fair shares visiting Macau and I hope some people be on the same boat with me.
I always travel along as my friends all say I pay too much when visiting Macau (boat trip + the average sauna price / +$1500HKD). They say the money I spend on one they can get 2 or 3 walk-ins in Hong Kong but to me I'm not in to "fuck, pay & go" or another word cheap and cheerful. My friends wouldn't remember who they fucked the day after it be that quick.
To me is all about the whole experience / atmosphere, getting pampered, cleaned up and having good memories of her. They'll remember you and you'll remember them too. This makes it worth it and hey, I'm on holiday "mood" whenever I pay a visit 
I never go with the over $3k HKD mark as they are usually "model" russian, korean, japanese. They are usually the ones to avoid as I learned it the hard way when I chose a japanese girl first time I went to Macau. Her acting was rubbish and I felt like I was fucking a robot which really turned me off.
(Maybe I'm just unlucky for that one time) but is not a risk I will take twice for that kind of money.
I normally go for the ones that always make eye contact and smile and not look away. (I've seen some who smile and look away un-interested and smile again when they look at you). They are the most fun and really don't mind paying the little extra. If you are lucky connect with them you might get a second shot free 
But if you ask me, around $2400HKD is the most I would pay - I don't shit money out of my arse
