scooter also gives some insight into the way it CAN work: pay the essentials (barfine) and they'll hang out with you if they like you, and are not otherwise occupied. If the financials are taken care of then sanuk is what's sought, and if you're a fun guy to hang out with, you might have company, and nothing wrong with that.
Other gifts are as-and-when. When I lived in Bangkok, I could tell when one of my regulars was in need of a cash top-up, shall we say. If you've established that you won't shell out for a silly excuse (Mom is sick, buffalo is sick, dog needs meditation lessons), they respect that. But you should always buy fruit/snacks and stuff like that.
If a Baccara girl does a 24-hour stint for 10K, Gayboy, and you're fine with that, go for it. She can be your fantasy tour guide when you visit Bangkok. The thing to do is not to send money overseas--it amazes me that I have to mention it, but guys do. The buffalo needs meditation training, please send 20K baht/month, miss you so much, muah muah. I know guys who've told me they helped write those letters, and I've personally helped write emails for a girl or two.
I don't understand this much at all. Do I send money to my favorite Mexican restaurant in San Francisco from Asia?? I do not. When I'm there, I'll dig into some of their find food and pay them then. "PLEASE PAY WHEN SERVED"...it is not a difficult concept.
Anyway, try not to obsess...I know the feeling. Jai yen yen, dude.
