I don't think you should compare between HK and the states ... different class and variety of food to be quite honest ... and overall cost of eating is more expensive here and portions are much smaller

but even in HK you if you don't go the the hotels for buffet you will find quite a few smaller restaurants serving buffet for around $250 - 300
