There is actually a fair bit of action going on in the heartlands of singapore or residential estates. Requires you to have a grasp of mandarin though as the WGs are prcs.
Geylang would be your best bet and the place is a foodie's heaven as well.
Try this place 126 DIM SUM WEN DAO SHI (搵到食) for a very decent dim sum experience and it opens to late.
For MBS, can have your sustenance at Pizzeria Mozza, DB Bistro or Cut before heading to Geylang for some fun. Do note that taking taxis from MBS have additional surcharges. Do not take chrysler cabs in SG as they costs a bomb.
Have fun in SG!

P.s. Bring a small foldable brolly if you are gonna carry a bag around when exploring  the sights and sounds on SG.
